Is it just me or does the “Catwoman” riff (not the main theme) in “Bar Shootout” and “Nothing Out There” sound very much like the main Scarface theme? I’ve also noticed that Hans sometimes will write a main tune and a series of riffs for a character, but will mainly incorporate the smaller motifs in the film (Angelica’s music from OST, Megamind’s main tune, Catwoman, etc.) Definitely not a problem though, I like the variety.
Look at the evolution of Batman’s theme from Begins, where he had the 2-note motif and the actual theme, to here where it’s just the 2 notes and the chord theme. I wonder if that was Chris Nolan’s decision. So I don't know why I wasted time doing this, but I was surprised to realize that the main two-note Batman theme is used a lot more in this score than it is in The Dark Knight. It feels like it's used less often because it isn't used very much along with the string ostinato, which is what helped it become noticeable BB and TDK, but it actually pops up very frequently. The two note theme is used in 22 Batman Begins cues, 13 Dark Knight cues, and 22 Dark Knight Rises cues.
And yeah.it's kinda sad I know that now. Your name: Please enter number: 1115 superultramegaa 2018-02-12 03:44:34 First, wow that's awesome that they're used the exact same amount of times in BB and TDKR, but second of all, yeah I never picked that up either until I saw a behind the scenes video of Hans showing Nolan 'Blake Visits Wayne Manor,' where he said how the theme is more delicate and higher pitched because he's wounded, and the theme needs to rebuild itself just like Wayne does. It's not until Bruce escapes the prison do we get a big, epic statement of the two-note theme, and not until he returns do we get the grandest statement of it. Looking through this score again, it's probably the best in terms of the way it tells the story with the music, but I still think Batman Begins is a more emotional, and depthful score, especially with James Newton Howard's influence. Mike (OTM) 2018-02-12 04:01:29 'Looking through this score again, it's probably the best in terms of the way it tells the story with the music, but I still think Batman Begins is a more emotional, and depthful score, especially with James Newton Howard's influence.' Yeah, I agree.
This score has a lot of new ideas that help tie things off and the progression from beginning to end is clear. You can tell that just by listening through the score. My favorite of these scores has always been Batman Begins (I love the dark and ambient nature of the whole thing), but my favorite when taken together with the film is The Dark Knight. Something about TDK just managed to be very 'polished,' and the score is no exception.
I definitely missed James Newton Howard in TDKR. His decreased presence was already noticeable in TDK. I wish he had come back for this one, but hey.
We can't fix that now. Closed things off competently in TDKR, but for me, the main stuff I listen to in TDKR is the suites.
The two Moody Bruce suites and the Bane suite are really fantastic, but I don't think the in-film score is as impressive as Hans' initial suite ideas. Replies: 3 2017-12-23 15:54:14. None of the themes that he obviously worked on are in here. Superultramegaa 2017-11-02 21:45:50 Howard did a lot less of the emotional tracks than you might think.
I'm fairly certain Mugging is all Zimmer, and Howard isn't credited for Courthouse, so that was probably Zimmer too. However, Howard definitely did Father to the Rescue, Dirty Cash/Prototypes, Campfire, Bruce Comes Home and all reprises of that. At least, these are my best guesses. So to answer your question, I think the background for the beginning of Nothing Out There was Howard's work. Replies: 3 2017-04-20 21:48:46. Anyone notice how this score seemed to undergo a lot more post-cue editing compared to the other two films? -'batman chased' is almost completely replaced with (better) temp cues and its midsection is changed a lot -'rooftop fight' is significantly edited in the film (the version here isn't even complete!) -'imagine the fire' and 'chasing the convoy east' sound totally different in the film, with a heavily edited insert between them.' fernet branca' is replaced with the (better) TDK version on the whole the TDKR complete score just doesn't sound as 'together' as BB and TDK to me.
Usb2 driver windows 7. Your name: Please enter number: 1115 anonymous 2016-06-28 22:10:31 oh, and there's also the 'mugging part 2' insert replacing 'a hero can be anyone', along with an insert from 'the ferries' (TDK) between 'batman returns - on thin ice' and 'come with me' Mike 2016-06-28 22:18:29 I've noticed this as well. I imagine it comes down to editing Chris Nolan had to do to the film itself. Especially with the various inserts that don't show up on the cue sheet, I would guess that Hans and co. Had written the 'complete' score and the inserts were used to easily accommodate later edits made to the film itself by Nolan. I would guess also that, comparing the other two movies to this one, Hans, James, and co. Did the cues but then didn't have to put up with too many edits to the picture.
Thus, the complete scores for those more closely resemble what the movies have. There was some editing in Begins, though. Batmobile Chase is significantly different in the movie, while Backup and Batman Arrives were both made to be more 'beefy' in the film. (And just since we're on the topic.
I would still would love an official release of the Batman Chased film edit - that's higher on my list than No Time for Caution, lol). Replies: 4 2016-06-06 19:45:31.
Forgive a slight dose of fanboy-ism, but I had 'Moody Bruce New Hero' Suite on earlier and boy has this got some of the best notes written for Batman. IMHO at least. That this particular suite missed its well-deserved place in just about every commercial album made for this 'Rises' is beyond me. One part that almost universally blows me away in this cue is the bit starting around 8:47 - 9:05. Dramatic and heroic. Every time these two keywords come into the spotlight and become the center of attention, Hans' style of composition truly shines. Your name: Please enter number: 1115 Mike 2016-06-06 21:21:52 Oh, that suite is fantastic.
It makes me mad they didn't release all of it (outside the underwhelming app). It's truly a highlight of all the music written for these movies. The TDK album got 'A Dark Knight,' so why couldn't TDKR have gotten this?
TDKR as an album is one of my least favorite HZ albums. Doesn't do justice to the score at all. Anonymous 2016-06-06 21:25:36 yeah zimmer releases truly got better after man of steel. Now, 2-disc releases are de rigueur for blockbluster movies like this. Such a thing would have been unthinkable from the man back when tdkr came out though.
If only water tower or some label would make an improved release of this one (and begins!!!). Isildur 2016-06-07 09:35:26 I think you'll find many fans of 'Moody Bruce' suite here. It is the best arranged track out of the entire Rises score after all. Edmund Meinerts 2016-06-07 16:45:09 Yeah I agree. Mike 2012-12-07 18:04:58 Wow! Why isn't this score credited to 'Hans Zimmer & Lorne Balfe'? Thejok3rrules 2012-12-07 18:58:21 Thank you, Hybrid Soldier!:D I don't want to ask too much, but could you do the same with Batman Begins' expanded score and The Dark Knight's complete too?
Mike 2012-12-07 19:25:25 Haha that WOULD be pretty awesome, but no pressure. Hybrid Soldier 2012-12-07 19:38:57 As I already stated it's quite impossible for Begins. Apart from obvious things sounding HZ and other sounding JNH, it's really a co-score, with HZ using JNH & JNH using HZ. I have no clue about Ramin's work, just that he helped a lot. Lorne arranged a few things, the known one is 'Backup', and Mel for the more 'ambient' cues.:) TDKR was more a 'split' work so it's easier (even though composers did rework cues from Begins, so it remains fuzzy). But I'll tell what I know from TDK.
Mike 2012-12-07 19:59:19 I actually have a question about Backup, since the beginning is used for the end credits to these movies. I'm ignorant of music processes, so when you say LB 'arranged' the cue, do you mean he 'composed' it or just sort of put it together like that? And if he composed it, I assume that means that whenever the credits start rolling we're hearing Lorne Balfe? Hybrid Soldier 2012-12-07 20:24:56 Lorne was a music programmer on Begins, while Ramin 'wrote' additional music. So basically Lorne was working on pre-existing cues, and added various layers (percs, strings etc.). So you're hearing. Well, Hans & Lorne!;) Anonymous 2013-06-18 01:10:54 Hybrid do you know if HZ did ANY of the TDKR cues himself?
Mike 2013-08-17 04:52:16 If I had to guess I would say Hans did the 'Prologue' and 'Slow Knife' cues alone. Not entirely sure why, but they just strike me as Zimmer cues. Also, the first part of Batman Chased, the film version, is temp music from the previous two movies-temp music which, I imagine, Zimmer applied to the scene before having Lorne arrange the actual cue. So you could probably say Zimmer did that himself also. Anonymous 2013-08-17 04:55:18 'Gotham is Yours' sounds like a HZ cue to me MacArthur 2013-08-18 04:22:53 Its probably not credited to Balfe because he might have just arranged it MacArthur 2013-08-18 04:27:04 It just seems to me that all of this was Composed by Zimmer but put together and Arranged by Balfe. So to answer your question Zimmer did do it it was just Balfe who put it together. Anonymous 2014-02-03 22:29:21 any idea about cues you didn't list hybrid or no?
Mike 2014-02-03 22:33:42 Wouldn't he have put them if he knew.?:P I imagine the Prologue and Slow Knife cues are Zimmer alone, and since It Was the Batman and No Stone Unturned are just suites temped in, I imagine those are Zimmer alone also. I also wouldn't be surprised if Born in Darkness were Zimmer alone. Seeing as Lorne did the End Credits cue in TDK, I'd be willing to assume he did it here, too. Anonymous 2016-03-11 17:19:08 Hybrid i'm not REALLY expecting to get an answer to this but:P. Where do you get your credits from?
Do you have access to hans' cuesheets or what exactly? Replies: 4 2016-03-10 23:16:47. Your name: Please enter number: 1115 Mike 2016-03-11 16:35:18 No, you're not. It boggles my mind the way this score was released, honestly.
2011-2012 was a bad time for HZ albums, and this brings back memories of that. The suites - especially Wayne Manor, Bane, and the completely-unreleased transfiguration suite - are the real highlights of this score, yet they were released in an app? Where's the logic? Then the CD is 50 minutes of cues of lesser importance in the overall score, with the exception of a few like 'Gotham's Reckoning' (prologue) and 'Rise.'
Then there was the whole issue of 'bonus tracks': get 'No Stone Unturned' and 'Risen From Darkness' with the physical CD, but. Oh, the latter track wasn't remotely like the much better film mix. Then you could get another track buying tickets early!.Sigh. Say what you want about HZ albums these days missing important cues ('Escape From Ship,' 'Rest of My Life' film version, 'No Time For Caution' film version), but things are a heck of a lot better now than they were when TDKR came out.
Now, 2-disc releases seem to be a standard for blockbuster scores, and Batman v. Superman is continuing that trend. Anonymous 2016-03-11 16:54:26 i'd love to see a 2-disc release setup like this: CD 1 (approx: 68 min): 1. Logo / Prologue (full) 2. Harvey Dent Day / Uncrackable Safe 3.
Nothing Out There For Me 4. Bar Shootout 5. Blake Visits Wayne Manor / Hospital Visit 6. For Old Times' Sake 7.
Stock Exchange 8. Batman Chased (film version) 9.
Rooftop Fight 10. Take Me To Bane 11. A Child Born in This Hell 12. Instrument of Your Liberation 13. Gotham Is Yours 14. Born in Darkness / Many Forms of Immortality 15.
Not Meant to Die Here / Someone Sold Us Out 16. Without a Rope CD 2 (approx: 30 min of cues, 40 min of suites): 1. Death or Exile? / Gordon Arrested 2. Remember Where You Parked It?
/ Batman Returns 3. All Out War 4. The Slow Knife (full version) 5. Imagine the Fire (film version) / Chasing the Convoy 6. Rise (film version) 7. Wayne Manor / Moody Bruce Hero Suite 8. Bane Suite (maybe shortened) 9.
Selina Kyle Suite 10. Moody Bruce Transfiguration Suite And this would certainly be possible. MoS had about an hour on its first disc, with another hour on its second, 50-some minutes of disc 2 being suites! Come on, Watertower!:P Anonymous 2016-03-11 16:55:22 50. min of suites on disc 2 Mike 2016-03-11 17:04:13 It's certainly possible.
TDK in this very series got a 2-disc release, and I never have felt like I have been missing 'essential cues' when listening to that version. But I would add a shortened version of the 'End Credits' to the above list as well. The credits music that finishes these movies is essential to appreciating the three scores properly IMO. Sadly only TDK has the credits on its official release. Replies: 0 2016-03-01 15:24:44.
I'm so thankful I was able to get my hands on this version of the soundtrack. Thel retail OST left out so much good material even with the bonus tracks. I'm only gripe is all the filler tracks on the last disk. I would recommend buying the retail version as well though. Some of the tracks on the original soundtrack are much better, such as 'No Stone Unturned', its far superior version of 'A Hero Can Be Anyone' since it leaves out all the temp music from TDK and features a cool version of Batman's theme that first popped up in the track 'Training' in Begins. Does anyone know why Hans sort of phased out Batman's main theme from 'Molossus'? Your name: Please enter number: 1115 Hybrid Soldier 2013-09-03 17:42:57 Mainly for the remix.
And Ramin gets additional arrangements but didn't work on that score.;) It was just a big thank for a Begins cue.;) Bioscope 2013-09-03 20:27:25 I think it's for the reuse of 'Train Fight' as 'Chasing the Convoy East', just with Bane colours and motifs mixed in. Mike 2013-09-04 17:37:15 Bioscope, what are you referring to?
You think 'it's' for the re-use of Train Fight.Do you mean JunkieXL's crediting or Ramin Djawadi's? And how in the world would making a remix merit someone the credit of 'additional music'? It wasn't even used in the movie (thank God-can you imagine if that remix started playing?
XD) It'd be like that video, 'I'm Bane, yes, that's my name.' Bioscope 2013-09-04 19:31:25 I was referring to the Ramin credit, but this is speculation on my part.
Anonymous 2015-04-25 22:02:39 'Big thanks for a Begins cue.' Was the cue 'Training', and Hans was thanking Ramin for inspiring 'A Dark Knight'? Zach 2015-04-29 12:37:18 The 'thanks for Begins cue.' Could actually be the theme that plays in Begins where we first meet Bruce after he wakes from a nightmare and then we seem him walking through the prison. That same theme is played when Selina first meets Bruce in DKR.
(which is the first time we, the audience, see him) Training/second part of Eptesicus seems to build off that theme as well as the parts in Rise and A Dark Knight. Ramin Djawadi is credited in some way for Training.wonder if he initially wrote it and Hans expanded on it or if it's mostly Hans' stuff, who knows!

Apparently it's just the webmaster posting all the tracks (released and unreleased) that were from the movie for whatever reason as 'unofficial releases'.
